Dominic J. Brewer is dean emeritus of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University, where he holds an appointment in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. Brewer's work includes empirical analyses of the effects of teachers on student achievement and class size. Most recently, he was a co-editor of the journal Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis as well as the Encyclopedia of Education Economics and Finance. Brewer served as president of the Association for Education Finance and Policy and is a fellow of the American Educational Research Association. He was formerly a co-director of PACE and has also been a professor in Urban Leadership Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California, and he spent 11 years at the RAND Corporation. Brewer received his PhD in labor economics from Cornell University.
