Socorro Shiels serves as the inaugural diversity, inclusion, and equal employment officer for the City of Santa Rosa. To ensure all in the community can thrive, she guides the system-level equity centering of practice and policy while explicitly addressing the needs of the most marginalized. As an expert in organizational, justice-centered continuous improvement, coalition building, and community strengthening, Shiels has led California school districts amid the trauma of COVID-19, rampant wildfires, and unrelenting racial violence. A founding team member of the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, she is completing her doctorate in organizational development and policy at the University of California, Davis, concentrating on social justice and equity issues.
