Eric Rofes was an assistant professor in education at Humboldt State University. He was a long-time activist and the founder of the Boston Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance. Rofes has served as executive director of the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center and the Shanti Project. He also served as a board member of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Lesbian and Gay Health Association. A former member of the Gay Community News collective, Rofes has published several books, numerous academic papers, and journal articles on school reform, race, and ethnicity in education, and gay men's cultures. Rofes received his PhD in social and cultural studies from the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Education.
