Xiaoxia Newton is an associate professor in the Cato College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her scholarship is concerned with using methodological tools in creative and productive ways to tackle educational problems pertinent in urban communities, with an emphasis on mathematics education and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) participation. She has published Improving Teacher Knowledge in K–12 Schooling: Perspectives on STEM Education. Newton received her PhD in social research methodology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
