Jon Valant is a fellow in the Brown Center on Education Policy at the Brookings Institution. He studies K–12 education policy and politics, with a focus on equity and urban schools. Much of his work examines urban school choice reforms, particularly in New Orleans, where he is a nonresident research fellow at the Education Research Alliance for New Orleans. He is especially interested in identifying school choice policies and practices that either enhance or undermine the opportunities of disadvantaged students. His other work covers school performance ratings, student discipline, and what parents and the public want from schools. He received his PhD in education from Stanford University.
